Fire Resistance for Timber

Periods of fire resistance such as 30 minutes or 60 minutes providing stability to a structure such as a timber beams or columns holding up a floor assembly are often confused with reaction to fire which deals with the initial stage of a fire. However, the testing is very different to achieve and getting it wrong can be costly and ultimately very dangerous if a fire occurs.
EN13381-7 is the test method for determining the contribution to the fire resistance of structural members. Aithon PV33 Intumescent  system is the only product currently in the UK to have such stringent testing on timber.
EN 13501-2 is a fire classification of construction products and building elements – Part 2: Classification using data from fire resistance tests
