Flametect CWD Clear Flame Retardant for Wood Summary

Flametect CWD Clear Flame Retardant for Wood

Flametect CWD

Clear Flame Retardant Treatment for Wood (Interior & Exterior Use)

Flametect CWD is a clear, water-based flame retardant impregnation treatment designed to enhance the fire performance of timber and wood-based substrates. It penetrates the surface of the wood to reduce flame spread and heat release, helping treated timber achieve recognised UK and European fire classifications when applied correctly.

Suitable for interior and certain exterior applications (when protected from direct weathering), CWD leaves the natural appearance of the wood virtually unchanged.

Fire Performance

When applied at the correct coverage rates to suitable timber species, Flametect CWD can help achieve:

BS 476 Part 6 & 7 – Class 0

BS 476 Part 7 – Class 1

Euroclass EN 13501-1 – up to Class B-s1,d0 (substrate dependent)

Fire classification is dependent on timber type, density, surface profile, and application rate. Always refer to certification for approved substrates.

Key Features

  • Clear / colourless finish
  • Water-based formula
  • Deep penetration into timber
  • Low odour
  • Easy spray, brush or roller application
  • Suitable for interior use

Suitable Substrates

Softwood timber

Hardwood timber

Plywood

OSBMDF (application rate may vary)

Timber must be clean, dry, untreated and free from oils, waxes, varnishes or previous coatings prior to application.

Typical Applications

Wall and ceiling cladding

Decorative timber panels

Roof timbers

Exhibition stands

Theatres, schools, public buildings

Application Instructions

Preparation

Ensure timber moisture content is typically below 15%.

Surface must be clean, dry and dust-free.

Sand smooth surfaces lightly to assist absorption if required.

Application Methods

Low-pressure spray (recommended)

Brush

Roller

Coverage Rate (Guide Only)

Approx. 4–6m² per litre per coat

Coverage varies depending on timber density and porosity.

Apply evenly and allow full absorption. Multiple coats may be required to achieve the correct loading for certification.

Drying Time

Touch dry: 1–2 hours

Recoat: 4–6 hours

Fully dry: 24 hours (dependent on temperature and humidity)

Ensure adequate ventilation during drying.

Overcoating

CWD can be over-coated with certain paints, varnishes or sealers if required.

Always carry out compatibility testing before full application, as some coatings may affect fire performance.

Durability

Designed primarily for interior use.

For exterior use, treated timber must be protected from direct weather exposure with a suitable weather-resistant topcoat.
